Bay Forum Discusses Sustainable Economic Development

For immediate release: 5 May 2008

Key figures from the Bay of Plenty will meet today (Tuesday May 6) in Rotorua to begin developing the region's economic development strategy.

The aim is decide what work needs to be done to sustain economic growth in the region and to set priorities to work towards.

Participants will come from the Bay's three economic development agencies, businesses, central and local government, education, science and iwi.

Environment Bay of Plenty has organised the event on behalf of the Regional Governance Group.

Regional Governance Group chairman John Cronin highlighted the importance of the key influencers in the region working together for the benefit of our economy.

"This is an exciting opportunity to build on the combined economic strengths of the Bay of Plenty and help shape the development of our region," says John Cronin.

The feedback from the workshop will be used to form the regional development strategy. This will guide the way we manage, plan and work towards sustaining and growing our economy over the next ten years.
