$6.5m grant for Eden Park
$6.5m grant for Eden Park
PRESS RELEASE
ASB
Community Trust is to make a $6.5m grant toward the rebuild
of Eden Park, in time for the Rugby World Cup, and to assure
its future as an important multi-sport facility for the
region.
“We want to join all New Zealand in celebrating the World Cup Tournament in 2011,” says Trust CEO Jennifer Gill, “and we’re also making this grant with an eye to Eden Park’s future use.
“By investing in this infrastructure the Trust has an expectation that Eden Park be available for a wider range of sports and that women’s sports should be able to be played there too.”
The Trust also sees a special place for cricket at Eden Park. This includes development of the outer oval as a test cricket venue.
ASB Community Trust has supported developments at Eden Park as far back as 1998, when it granted $2.2m to help build the north stand and floodlights. In 2002 it granted $2.1m for reconstruction of the park’s playing surface.
