Bluff Oyster Festival Nets Fat Freddy’s Drop
Bluff Oyster & Food Festival Nets Fat Freddy’s Drop
The Bluff Oyster & Food Festival has netted Fat Freddy’s Drop to play at this year’s Festival homecoming celebration back on Bluff territory.
From Paris, London and Portugal to Bluff, Fat Freddy’s Drop, fresh from an overseas tiki tour, will drop their soulful tunes at the Bluff Town Hall in May for the inaugural Ngāi Tahu Seafood Bluff Oyster & Food Festival Concert.
Festival Chairman John Edminstin says “The Ngāi Tahu Seafood Bluff Oyster & Food Festival Concert is a great addition to the Festival and we’re really pleased to have such a well known band joining us at this year’s Festival. The Bluff community has been working really hard to put on an event that celebrates Bluff’s specialty seafood and promises to be a great fun day for all.”
Wellington based seven-piece band Fat Freddy’s Drop is renown for an equal love of music and food. The opportunity to mix the two at a Festival in honour of the succulent deep-sea Bluff delicacy was enough to convince the band to head south despite just getting back in studio lockdown to polish off the follow up album to Based On A True Story.
Freddy’s keyboardist Dobie Blaze has whanau in Bluff through his mother’s family. A ‘kai khemist’ at heart, Dobie Blaze aka Iain Gordon has been asked, with his mother, to work some magic with Bluff kai moana in the kitchen for an invite only dinner at Te Rau Aroha Marae.
