Inaugural Manukau Poetry Competition
Manukau City Council Libraries, in conjunction with the Gadd Family, invite Manukau poets to submit entries in the inaugural Bernard Gadd Memorial Poetry Prize. The annual competition commemorates the late Manukau poet and continues his support of poetry in the city.
Work submitted must be original and unpublished. Entrants must be 18 years and over and reside in Manukau. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, with the winning poems published on the libraries’ Manukau in Poetry website.
Judges for the inaugural competition are:
• David Gadd, Bernard’s son. David is the Managing Editor of Business for Fairfax Media
• Melissa Steiner, a published poet who co-edited the Manukau in Poetry anthology
• Alan Papprill published poet and teacher of English and media studies at Howick College
Entry forms are available from all Manukau Libraries. Closing date for entries is Monday, 30 June at 4pm.
Winners will be announced at Howick Library on Friday, 18 July at 12 noon as part of Montana Poetry Week celebrations.
