Kandoo the Kiwi, the mascot for Foundation for Youth Development programme Kiwi Can, has just arrived in the Bay of Plenty on his national Kiwi Can Tour.
As part of the eight month tour, Kandoo is visiting Kiwi Can schools from Kaitaia to Bluff learning about all the exciting themes students are studying in the programme.
Kiwi Can Bay of Plenty Co-ordinator Kevin O’Hanlon says, “The programme has been instrumental in changing the attitudes and behaviour of students across the region.”
Kiwi Can is a life skills and values programme for 5 – 12-year-olds. It provides a permanent and preventive model for teaching children a system of values, respect for themselves and a feeling of belonging and engagement with the community around them.
O’Hanlon says, “Our students take great pride in their community and are really excited to take Kandoo to some of the key landmarks, from surfing at one of the beautiful beaches to walking up Mount Maunganui.”
Kandoo will spend two weeks visiting students from Merivale, Greerton Village, Gate Pa, Arataki, Papamoa, Brookfield and Welcome Bay School while in the Bay of Plenty.
The next stop on his tour will be Kiwi Can Opotiki.
