Council to launch restoration guide for native plants

Manukau Parks’ award-winning book ‘Restoring Our Native Plants’ will be launched on 2 July at 10am at Barry Curtis Park – Wetland Playground, Stancombe Road, Botany.

The book won prestigious Charlie Challenger Supreme Award and Gold Award - Landscape Planning (Planning and Environmental Design) at the NZILA Resene Pride of Place Landscape Awards 2008 last month.

Manukau developers, private land-owners, members of Forest and Bird, groups of parks volunteers, and Auckland Regional Council staff are expected to attend the event. Acting mayor, Gary Troup will launch the book.

This will be a good opportunity for media to speak with some of the users of the book, and understand how it has benefited them. There’s a photo opportunity for award citation, and to photograph students planting trees at Barry Curtis Park after the book launch.

The book contains lists of plants suitable for use in each of Manukau City’s eight ecosystem character areas.  Readers can find out which native plants are best suited to their area by looking up the ‘eco-address’ in the book.
