Transmission Gully
Kapiti Coast District Council welcomes Transport Minister Annette King’s announcement regarding the State Highway development through Transmission Gully which indicates savings through a redesign, Mayor Jenny Rowan said today.
“The Council welcomes this outcome and congratulates those involved in this breakthrough on the route’s costs and stated safety improvements.
“An upgraded State Highway will address the route’s reliability issues for New Zealanders.
“This is a further step towards reducing the risks faced by the country through its reliance on a coastal highway prone to accidents and closure. The Kapiti Coast’s residents and businesses will also benefit from this increased reliability in the long term.
“The District Council continues to give priority to public transportation, particularly rail, and the safety of the existing highway. We see the Transmission Gully route as very important but a longer term project,” Jenny Rowan said.
“The linking of various forms of transportation into a unified solution continues to gain IN importance at local and regional levels.
“I expect the Council will want the new design to take public transportation into account and we look forward to more information being made available to us to see if it supports our vision,” Mayor Jenny Rowan said.
“Kapiti Coast District Council will be working with the Greater Wellington Regional Council and other local authorities in the region to ensure we are united in our approach.”
