High winds and damage expected
Media Release 28 July 2008
High winds and damage expected from approaching weather event
The Waikato is being forewarned of potential damage to various areas of the region as a result of another approaching weather event.
The Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group is advising that people in the region ensure that the outside of their properties are secured against potential wind damage.
It is possible that some areas could have power outages from the effects of high winds. Lifeline companies are prepared for potential disruption throughout the region.
Caution should be taken on the roads while driving and only essential journeys should be considered to be taken while the weather event is occurring.
We ask that people be patient and understanding and now is a good time to check and stock up with batteries and torches.
The effect of last weekend’s weather bomb was offset by the early warning from the met service combined with a well coordinated approach from all emergency and support services and importantly the public’s responsible response to the seriousness of the situation.
If any incidents happen, or if people have any concerns they should contact their local council for further information.
This information has been issued by the Waikato CDEM Group.
