ARTA responds to request for revised timetable

ARTA Media Release

ARTA responds to Rakino request for revised ferry timetable

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) advises that from Friday 8 August 2008 a new timetable will be in place for Rakino ferry services, with the ferry now departing Pine Harbour for Rakino (via Matiatia Wharf on Waiheke Island) on Friday afternoons, replacing the current Saturday morning service.

ARTA’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “The new timetable is ARTA’s response to a request from the Rakino Ratepayers’ Association. The introduction of Friday afternoon sailings between Pine Harbour, Matiatia (Waiheke Island) and Rakino means passengers can now enjoy a longer time on Rakino or Waiheke islands.

“On Friday evenings, passengers heading to Rakino from Auckland City can connect to the Matiatia-Rakino service by catching a Fullers ferry service to Matiatia or the Pine Harbour Ferries service to Pine Harbour. On Sundays, passengers can connect at Waiheke to the Fullers ferry service to Auckland.”

The ferry service between Matiatia and Rakino is funded by ARTA and operated by Pine Harbour Ferries.

The service between Pine Harbour and Matiatia is a commercial service operated by Pine Harbour Ferries.

Fares for the journey between Pine Harbour and Matiatia only and Matiatia and Rakino (contracted to ARTA), will remain the same. However, commuters should note that commercial service fares for the combined Pine Harbour-Matiatia and Matiatia-Rakino trip will increase. Fares for the Fullers ferry service between the Downtown Ferry Terminal and Matiatia will also remain the same.

The first Friday afternoon sailing to Rakino will take place on Friday 8 August 2008.
