Mike Heard, long suffering ginga and Bungy Jumping nut, steps off the AJ Hackett Bungy pod from beneath the Auckland Harbour Bridge at 6:05am this morning in his attempt to Bungy into the Guinness World Records™.
Heard is aiming for 30 jumps by 10am today, with the 3:00pm hour as the hour he hopes to cracks the record of 101 Bungy Jumps. Heard has every intention of smashing the record and has set a personal target of 150 jumps.
The current record for the 'Most Bungy Jumps in 24 hours' is held by Bill Boshoff (South Africa) who performed 101 Bungy Jumps in 14 hr 23 min at Bloukrans River Bridge, South Africa, on 10 May 2002.
Henry van Asch, Bungy Pioneer and Owner of Bungy New Zealand said ``It’s great that Mike Heard has recognised how fantastic bungy is for the soul. . . Our team is looking forward to helping Mike with this and celebrating with him once he has done the job.’’
Mike’s attempt will be used to raise funds for the “Cure Kids” charity and is supported by the team at AJ Hackett Bungy - Auckland, The Rock and Demon Energy. People can pledge support for Mike’s jump – with 100% of the money raised being donated to Cure Kids. You can visit the page at www.therock.net.nz/bungyginga.
