Bruch at Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Market
The place to be on a Sunday morning has always been the Hawke’s Bay farmers’ market at Kenilworth Road in Hastings now there is another reason why you show get out of bed on a Sunday and get down there because there is a number of stallholders selling hot food. A survey carried earlier this year found that there was a demand for “food to consume” at the market. “We are trialling the sale of “food to go” concept until the 28th September to gauge the support of the weekly visitors to the market, so far we have had fantastic feedback” said Cherry De’ Negri the HBFM Committee Chairperson.
There are a delicious variety of brunch delights such as omelettes, gourmet burgers, sausages, hot beef sandwiches, venison pies, soup, and kebabs. Waffles and breakfast pizzas will also be available from the end of August so everyone’s tastes are catered for. “Indications are that this is a success and what our customers want, the market is now looking at the need to purchase more tables and chairs to ensure there is enough seating for everyone” De Negri said
The market committee is constantly looking at ways to enhance the market as it is a popular destination with locals and visitors alike. De’ Negri said “every week we are hosting visiting journalists who have heard about the market and are keen to visit, experience and write about us; this is one of the best markets in New Zealand and helps to highlight the diverse food region we live in”
The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ market has become a Hawke’s Bay icon over the 8 years it has been operating. The market supports Hawke’s Bay food businesses who sell Hawke’s Bay Grown and/or Made products and can have anywhere from 40-60 stalls at the weekly market.
