Property subsidence at Clovelly Rd, Bucklands Beach
Five residences at 114, 116 and 118 Clovelly Road, Bucklands Beach, are being evacuated following land subsidence over the weekend.
The affected houses are being cordoned off today. A walkway to the beach and the foreshore are also being closed off. However the road remains open as it remains unaffected.
Director economic Rick Walden says the council is putting the residents’ safety first.
One residence, in a block of three, has experienced some damage through the subsidence. Some affected occupants have already voluntarily moved out and the others are in the process of moving.
“They will have the opportunity to move belongings from the houses today if they wish,” Mr Walden says.
“Geotechnical advice is now being sought regarding the cause. However, our first thought is for the residents’ and public’s safety. The area including the beach is being fenced off and it is essential that people stay away from the area.
“We are constantly monitoring the situation, and will be providing regular updates. It is unclear as to the extent of the problem or when it might move further. This aspect will be included as part of the ongoing geotechnical and engineering investigations.”
