The popular Kids Bike Day is returning to Onepoto Domain on October 1, just in time for the school holidays.

Kids Bike Day is a fun event that helps children to learn cycling skills, which in turn increases their safety and confidence.

Riding a bike is a great way to get active and help the environment, says North Shore City's Travel Behaviour Change Team Leader, Adi James.

While having fun is a big focus of the day, children will participate in activities to develop bike control and improve their understanding of road rules and Share with Care paths.

Children will also be taught how to check their brakes and tyres, as well as the correct way to fit a helmet.

"Whenever we ask children how they prefer to get to school, they commonly say by bike" says Ms James.

This event is part of council's programme to promote safe, active and sustainable travel across our city.

Popular TV presenter Jo Holley is back as MC and will be responsible for dishing loads of encouragement and spot prizes.

One lucky child will also ride away with a brand new bike courtesy of Avanti cycles in Wairau Road.

This is always a popular event and spaces are limited, so register online today by visiting www.northshorecity.govt.nz.

In the advent of bad weather, or for further information, please call Actionline on 486 8600.
