Throw off the winter blues and get some poo on your shoes!

Excitement is building for this year’s Clevedon A&P Show, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The event goes non-stop from 9am-5pm on Saturday 8 November and Sunday 9 November in the delightful setting of Clevedon Showgrounds, Monument Road.

The village’s unique A&P show was first established in 1909. Located just 30min from Auckland and 15min from Manukau, it’s one of only three A&P shows left in the Auckland area. Today the attractions combine the very best in rural living and urban sophistication.

This year, for the first time, the main arena will feature the awesome spectacle of medieval jousting, alongside the triumphant return of old favourites like mower polo and the mesmerising Parelli Horse demonstrations.

There will be the usual high standards in all the familiar outdoor and indoor show classes, and fierce but friendly competitions in everything from fencing to highland dancing. Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations of expert axe work, chainsaw carving and sheep shearing throughout the event.

A funfair, clown shows, pony rides and hands-on farm experiences are sure to keep the kids amused and enthused. And parents can unwind to the soothing sound of live jazz in the celebrated wine and food enclosure, savouring the world class flavours of local cuisine. Or while away the hours investigating the latest products and technology at the extensive range of trade stands.

Murray Helm, chairman of the Clevedon Business Association, is helping organise the event. “After the floods and landslips we have had around here everyone is keen as mustard to come together and have tonnes of fun, and everything is all set for that to happen,” he said.

“We work hard to improve our show each year, and every year it just gets better and better.”

Admission to all areas is $20 for a family, including two adults and as many kids as you can fit in your car. Single adults are $10, children aged three-14 $3 and under 3s are free.
