A 13-year-old Wellington girl has been referred to Police Youth Aid after falsely alleging that a male attempted to abduct her while walking home from school in Sussex Street, Newtown, last week.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller, Wellington CIB, said that as a result of fresh information and further inquiries, police are no longer investigating the complaint.

Police will seek leave from the court to withdraw a charge of attempted abduction laid against a male who was known to the teenager.
