I’ll Eat My Hat: prize-winning fashion
Whanganui UCOL School of Fashion students are rounding out a prize winning year of fashion with an extravaganza show.
This year’s eagerly awaited final show I’ll Eat My Hat will be staged at the Royal Wanganui Opera House on Friday 21 November. It includes the work of 48 students from the Bachelor of Fashion and the Certificate in Fashion.
Special highlights will be the final major collections of 10 year three students completing the Bachelor of Fashion, and entries selected for the Westfield Style Pasifika fashion show in Auckland in September. Three outfits were selected for the prestigious show, with second year student Michelle Smith winning second place in the Mens Wear section.
The year three students are staging the Wanganui show as part of their programme requirements, and have come up with the ‘I’ll Eat My Hat’ title. Whanganui UCOL School of Fashion Acting Programme Leader, Cassandra Knight, says the cheeky name suits the quirky nature of the show, which draws together an appetising array of different styles. “It’s fashion that is almost good enough to eat.”
Cassandra says the range covers a wide range of categories from commercial outfits, to bridal, and costume-inspired pieces. “I’ll Eat My Hat is more than just a catwalk show, it will include choreography, lighting effects, and video that will make it a fabulous evening,” she says.
Four Whanganui UCOL Fashion entries also gained selection to the highly rated Villa Maria Cult Couture fashion show that took place in Auckland on Saturday 1 November. Third year student Tasha Simpson won second in the Street Wear category of the highly regarded show.
I’ll Eat My Hat is part of the Whanganui UCOL Artrageous month of arts and festivities. Tickets are on sale at the Royal Wanganui Opera House.
