Climate Action Celebration At Western Park

AUCKLAND: A Celebration will be held for the 350 Climate Action Challenge at Western Park, Ponsonby on Saturday 6th December.

As part of the Ponsonby Christmas party, Western Park will be a-buzz this Saturday (6 December), with the 350 Climate Action Challenge which will include 'frocks on bikes', children's climate friendly activities, games, and plenty of information about how to meet the 350 challenge.

One of the key events is Frocks on Bikes, an event for women who love bikes and who love the planet. Women from all over Auckland will be dressed to impress and will cycle proudly through Ponsonby to celebrate International Day of Action on Climate Change.

Frocks on Bikes Auckland organizer, Jasmine Cargill says "Frocks on Bikes is about fostering a culture of cycling and showing people that bikes can be both everyday and glamorous accessories! Cycling in Aucklandisn't always easy but we want to show that cycling can be a safe, viable and even stylish option in the city. It can be fun, it's good for you and it's great for the environment.

"We encourage all women who like cycling, or who'd like to give it a go, to join us on Saturday 6 December. "

The glittering spectacle of Frocks on Bikes will start at 11.50 (assembly at 11.30)am at Western Park on Ponsonby Road and will take in the length of Ponsonby Road, through the back streets to Jervois Road, then up through Three Lamps along Ponsonby Road to Western Park.

The 350 Climate Action Challenge joins a movement of millions around the world on the Global Day of Action on Climate Change urging effective action from world leaders at the United Nations climate negotiations in Poznan, Poland.

The 350 Climate Action Challenge is being organized in tandem with the 350 Climate Action Festival in Wellington. These events together join the international 350 movement, by launching The NZ 350 Challenge. 350 parts per million (ppm) has been identified by scientists as the safe concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for the planet. The current global concentration is 387ppm and increasing at 2ppm each year. "While this can invoke a sense of panic in people, there are those of us who believe that we can take the required action to put the climate back into balance and have some fun while we do it. The Challenge aims to do just that" says Challenge organizer, Carl Chenery.

The Challenge runs from 11am – 1pm. Visit www.350.org.nz for further details about the day. Please note, this event will be cancelled only in the event of severe weather.
