Father Christmas is on his way

Auckland City Council
Media release

5 December 2008

Father Christmas is on his way

Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday, 13 December to make an appearance at Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park.

The crowd favourite fills the Auckland Domain with over 150,000 concert goers from 7.30pm to 10.10pm. This year's event promises to be a packed show filled with dancing, fireworks and some of New Zealand's best musical talent.

Auckland City Council advises Aucklanders to avoid driving and plan ahead to make use of the special public transport services available.

A shuttle bus will run from Britomart to Auckland Domain every 15 minutes as well as other special services operating from all over the Auckland region.

The Link Bus service runs every 15 minutes. Alternatively, the Newmarket train station provides easy access to the event. Visit www.maxx.co.nz for detailed public transport information on buses, trains and ferries.

Grafton Bridge is only open to pedestrians and cyclists, and roadworks are taking place on Park and Khyber Pass roads, so delays can be expected when travelling to the event. Make your way by bike or foot, or take advantage of park-and-ride facilities throughout Auckland.

On the day there will be a number of road closures throughout the Auckland Domain and surrounding roads, and while alcohol is permitted at Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, a liquor ban will be in place from 5pm to midnight around the museum and band rotunda areas. Visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/events for more information.
