Harvey And Morrison Join Forces On Chinatown

New Zealand’s “most enterprising entrepreneur”, managing director of HRL Morrison and Co and owner of the New Lynn bus depot, Lloyd Morrison, has endorsed Waitakere Mayor Bob Harvey’s concept for a Chinatown to be developed in New Lynn.

Harvey briefed Morrison and his team in Wellington last week about his plans to develop and open a Chinatown precinct in Totara Ave at the same time as the transport hub opens in 2010.

“Chinatown with all its food and fun needs to be a short distance from the station so that’s why Totara Ave is the best option,” says Harvey.

“It’s also got to be a preferred regional destination as well as local. With full electrification also in the pipeline for 2010 we are onto a winner and I am pleased to have Morrison and Infratil on board.

Harvey will start presenting the Chinatown concept to business and development groups early in the New Year. He will also meet with the New Lynn Business Association to allay any concerns it might have.
