Lifted
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Richard Hoskins today ( December 17) lifted a warning made on 12 December 2008 advising members of the public not to swim in
• Waipuka Stream at Ocean
Beach and
• Esk River
Dr Hoskins says re-sampling by the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has shown much lower levels of bacteria. “The levels are now well within the recommendations of the national Recreational Water Guidelines”.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will continue monitoring this waterway through summer.
The Hastings District Council surveyed Waipuka Stream and the Esk River and has identified that the high level of contamination from earlier in the week may be due to rainfall and agricultural activiies.
