Green light given for relocation of Tadmor Village

Manukau City Council gave the go ahead recently for the relocation of Tadmor Village, a housing for the elderly complex in Manurewa.

The council proposes to build 16 single-level units at 29 Alfriston Road adjacent to Alfriston Court. The present Tadmor Village site will be used by Manukau Parks to create a clear linkage between Gallaher Park and Tadmor Park.

The new $2.2 million development is the first housing for the elderly units to be built in Manukau in twenty-five years and replaces a proposal to build multi-level units at Tadmor Village.

Manukau Mayor Len Brown is pleased with the decision to relocate Tadmor Village to the Alfriston Road site.

“Tadmor Village is in dire need of replacement; so I am pleased we can now move quickly to proceed with the new units and relocate our elderly residents.

“The new development will cost less than the multi-level units originally proposed for the Tadmor site. In these tough economic times it is important to get the best value for our ratepayers as well,” says Mayor Brown.

The council will need to exchange the reserve status at 29 Alfriston Road with the present Tadmor Village land in McAnnalley Street. Once this has been completed and the Alfriston Road site rezoned to a main residential site, resource consent will be obtained for the development.

Mayor Brown says community views on the new units will be sought during the resource consent process.
