Come out and celebrate Auckland
Head to the Viaduct Harbour from 23 to 26 January to welcome a long weekend of anniversary celebrations to Auckland.
Kicking off with a free open-air concert on Friday night featuring Midnight Youth, Autozamm, Jonny Love and The CVE, followed by a spectacular light show, the weekend features a packed programme of events to appeal to young and old.
Another highlight, the popular Auckland Seafood Festival, is a three-day celebration of the unique tastes of the ocean set next to the water on the Halsey Street Wharf. Taste a huge range of seafood and wine, and participate in demonstrations and fun competitions.
The Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta on Monday, 26 January will see thousands of marine craft take to the Waitemata to celebrate Auckland’s maritime history – and the weekend is seen out in style with the Anniversary Day Celebration Concert featuring Annabel Fay, Goldenhorse and Jordan Luck on Monday from 6.30pm.
There are also plenty of free activities during the weekend, including free Ports of Auckland boat tours, a Royal New Zealand Navy Showcase, public tours of the STS Spirit of New Zealand and more.
Mayor John Banks, who is lighting the fire show, encourages Aucklanders to come down and make the most of this fun, family occasion. “This is a great start to the year and the council is proud to be able to provide this exciting programme that celebrates what is unique about our city and its history.”
Auckland Anniversary Weekend celebrations are provided by Auckland City Council with additional support from Heart of the City, The Southern Trust and More FM.
