Heaps of school holiday fun at Manukau Libraries

Things for the kids:
Children’s storyteller Andy Wright also known as ‘the Shah of Blah’ makes guest appearances at several Manukau Libraries next week.

Andy is well known for his fun, interactive storytelling style that gets the entire audience involved. The performances are free and are something both children and adults will enjoy.

You can hear Andy weave his magical stories at:

- Highland Park Library on Thursday 15 January at 6.30pm
- Mangere Town Centre Library on Friday 16 January at 10.30am
- Manukau City Centre Library on Friday 16 January at 2.00pm
- Botany Library on Friday 16 January at 6.00pm onwards
- Manurewa Library on Saturday 17 January at 10.30am

Something for the teens:
Manukau Libraries are hosting a special screening of the hit movie Twilight at the new Westfield Manukau SkyCity Cinemas on Wednesday, 28 January at 6.30pm.

Twilight is based on the best-selling teen novel of the same name by Stephanie Meyer. Tickets are only $7.50 and can be purchased at any branch of Manukau Libraries.

Learning and Literacy Coordinator Jody Gayton says “Twilight is one of the most popular teenage books in the library with forty-seven copies available and a list of 390 people waiting to read it.

“This is a great opportunity for all Twilight book or movie fans to see the film at a great price. It also gives all the mums and dads out there a chance to see what their teens are raving about”.

Each Manukau library is offering the chance for one teen to win two tickets to the movie. For competition details visit the library website www.manukau-libraries.govt.nz or enter at your nearest library.

A recent New Zealand Herald movie review described Twilight as ‘a Romeo and Juliet love story between human Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen – it is more fantasy romance than vampire flick.’ It carries an M rating.

Still time to enter ‘All Eyes on Manukau’ Photo Competition

Manukau teenagers still have time to enter the new youth photographic competition called All Eyes on Manukau.

Learning and Literacy Coordinator for Manukau Libraries Jody Gayton says
“The competition aimed at confronting the ‘South Auckland’ stereotype and celebrating the diversity of Manukau has attracted some wonderful photographs that showcase the best of what the city has to offer.

“Youth are encouraged to take photos of ‘their’ Manukau, giving them the chance to profile their daily lives, family, friends, neighbourhoods and things that matter to them”.

The top prize for the best photo is a digital camera and there will be a people’s choice award as well. Chosen semi-finalists will be displayed at various Manukau Libraries and the public will be asked to vote for their favourite.
