Children to celebrate end of reading challenge

Children head outdoors to celebrate completion of reading challenge

More than 1000 Manukau children head to Totara Park at the end of the month to celebrate the completion of Manukau Libraries’ summer reading challenge ‘Get Your Game Face On’.

To accommodate such a large number of children, four celebration parties will be held on 28 and 29 January. A storyteller, bush walks and games organised by Manukau on the Move and Manukau Park’s staff are just some of the fun outdoor celebration activities.

Manukau Mayor Len Brown will offer his congratulations to the participants on Thursday, 29 January from 10.30am to 11.30am. Media are welcome to attend during this time.

To complete the programme children undertook book, web and other activity challenges and kept a reading log for six weeks during the summer holidays.

Libraries also hosted a variety of events including a Family Games Night which saw mums and dads competing with their children to win prizes.
