Mayoral relief fund set up
Kapiti Coast District Mayor Jenny Rowan and the District Council are setting up a Mayoral Relief Fund for the victims of the Australian bushfire tragedy.
“The Council is making a grant from our emergency fund of $3000 to kick start the fund and we are asking Kapiti Coast residents to make donations at Council offices and branches,” Mayor Rowan said.
“We will pass on the funds collected to New Zealand Red Cross who are managing government and other relief fund contributions,” she said.
“At a meeting yesterday it was clear many of our elected members and staff have relatives, friends and acquaintances who live in Victoria and who are potentially or actually affected by these disastrous fires.
“Our hearts go out to them and we are confident Kapiti Coast residents will want to get behind our effort to raise funds to help our friends across the Tasman.
“We may be rivals on the sports field but when it comes to disasters of this kind, we all play as one team to support those in need,” Jenny Rowan said.
Donations may be made at any Council office or branch for the Kapiti Coast Mayoral Relief Fund for Bushfires.
