A month of Pacific culture and events in Auckland
During March, the biggest Polynesian city in the world, Auckland, will be packed with exciting and fun Pacific events and culture.
The month-long Celebrate Pasifika programme brings together a large line up of Pacific flavour in the form of visual and performing arts, free family events, workshops and more.
“This is a chance for the whole of Auckland to celebrate the diversity of Pacific communities within our city and region,” says Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee chairperson, Councillor Greg Moyle.
The highlight of the month is the council’s 17th Pasifika Festival on Saturday, 14 March at Western Springs Park from 10am to 5pm.
Pasifika Festival features a daylong programme of cultural and contemporary entertainment, and 10 cultural villages showcasing traditional food, new and traditional wares, cultural workshops, song and dance. This year’s festival also includes a rugby sevens tournament in Western Springs Stadium.
Other Celebrate Pasifika events include ASB Polyfest, special exhibitions and events at Auckland War Memorial Museum, MAU Forum, Pollywood – and a special visit from the Head of State of Samoa, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese.
