Cruise to HSBC Round the Bays with MAXX

ARTA Media Release

11 March 2009

Cruise to HSBC Round the Bays with MAXX

On Sunday 15 March, participants in, and supporters of HSBC Round the Bays can travel the easy way and catch public transport to the starting line on Quay St, just a short walk from the Britomart Transport Centre and the Downtown Ferry Terminal.

Additional train services will be operating on all three lines, and normal bus and ferry services will be operational. Regular fares will apply for all services.

A special bus service will be operating between Vellenoweth Green, St Heliers (from the corner of Goldie Street/Tamaki Drive) and the Auckland CBD. Bus services will depart from St Heliers expressing along the waterfront to the Round the Bays starting line between 7am and 8.30am.  Subsequent buses will use an alternative route due to road closures in place for the race.

After the run, return buses will depart from the corner of Long Drive/Tamaki Drive on demand until 2.30pm.  Initially buses will travel directly to the city, with no other pick-ups via Orakei Road however, once Tamaki Drive is reopened, buses will depart from the corner of Long Drive/Tamaki Drive and the corner of Sage Road/Tamaki Drive, travelling directly to Mahuhu Crescent.

The special buses cost $3 per person each way. Please note that there is limited space for prams and trundlers on the buses.

To accommodate the event, the following roads will be closed on Sunday 15 March:

·                     Quay Street from Tangihua Street to the Strand (5am to 6am)

·                     Quay Street from Lower Albert Street to the Strand (6am to 10.30am)

·                     Tamaki Drive from the Strand to Goldie Street (6am to 11.30am)

Because of these road closures, bus services using these roads will be diverted. There will be signs at the affected bus stops to advise passengers of their nearest alternative stop. Bus services will return to their normal routes once Tamaki Dr has been reopened to traffic.

Runners are also reminded of the dangers of accidentally running into the rail corridor.  Additional trains will be running for HSBC Round the Bays resulting in an increased risk of an accident for pedestrians and vehicles near to the tracks; please remember that it is an offence to trespass on the rail corridor.

Aucklanders can get more information about public transport services to and from Round the Bays and about bus diversions from MAXX on (09) 366 6400 or at www.maxx.co.nz
