Strawberry Fields For Ambos

St John to provide new ambulance station for West Auckland

A strawberry field is taking on a new lease of life as the site for a new St John ambulance station for West Aucklanders.

St John blessed the site for itsnew ambulance stationatWhenuapai on Friday27 March in a dawn service.

Number 117 State Highway16, formerly known as “The Strawberry Patch”, has been cleared of longtime commercial strawberry growing activity.

Growing up from the site will be a modern 228 square metre ambulance station with two-ambulance bay parking, ambulance officer lounge, kitchen, bathrooms, restrooms, equipment rooms, a meeting room and operational office.

ASPEC Construction have been appointed builders to the $754,000 project, Brown Day are the architects.

Waitakere City Council has approved resource consent and construction is set to start once building consent is finalised.The station is expected to be operational by July 2009.

This is the third building project progressed in as many years by a committee of St John volunteers in West Auckland. The other two are the West Auckland Ambulance Station upgrading at Edmonton Rd Te Atatu and the building of a public first aid training and youth development facility at New Lynn.

This is first ambulance station at Whenuapai. Previously, the area has been covered by ambulances from other West Auckland stations.

The St John Whenuapai Ambulance Station is being paid for through fundraising by St John, applications for grants, donations and bequests.
