New booklet showcases Tauranga Harbour

For immediate release: 3 April 2009
People who live, work and play in and around Tauranga Harbour now have access to a comprehensive booklet with the release of the revised Tauranga Harbour – our special place.

Environment Bay of Plenty’s Chairman John Cronin said the booklet was full of information that would be helpful for anyone who used the harbour for a broad range of activities.

“It’s been a collaborative effort with staff, volunteers and community members to put the booklet together. Whether you’re a windsurfer, schoolchild or someone who lives on the estuary, you’ll find this booklet provides a lot of relevant and useful information,” Chairman Cronin said.

The Tauranga Harbour booklet was originally published in 1997 and the new booklet has involved input from a number of agencies with responsibility for the harbour.

Tauranga Harbour – our special place covers activities and issues on the harbour ranging from volunteering and boating to wildlife and the cultural significance of the harbour. The booklet also includes handy tips on what to do and where to go on the harbour, how to care for and manage the harbour’s resources and profiles of people who live around, work in and play on the harbour.

If you would like a copy of Tauranga Harbour – our special place please contact Environment Bay of Plenty on 0800 ENV BOP (368 267) or by email at info@envbop.govt.nz.  It is also available on our website http://www.envbop.govt.nz/coast/media/pdf/2009Taurangaharbourbooklet.pdf
