Free buses on Easter Sunday

Media Release
Free buses on Easter Sunday!
For immediate release: 6 April 2009

Bus services in Tauranga will be free on Easter Sunday and a normal Saturday bus service will be operating on Easter Monday, thanks to Environment Bay of Plenty, Bayline Buses and Tauranga City Council.

The services on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday will follow the normal Saturday timetable and will operate on all 12 Tauranga urban routes.

“With the National Jazz Festival and other events happening in Tauranga over Easter, we wanted to ensure festival goers could enjoy a couple of wines and have the safe and convenience option of public transport,” Environment Bay of Plenty Senior Transport Planner Emlyn Hatch said.

Routes 7, 11 and 12 are the best links between the city centre and the Jazz Village, at the Historic Village on 17th Avenue.

Passengers don’t have to be going to the Jazz Festival to travel for free on Easter Sunday.

From 29 June local people can expect new and improved bus services, including Sunday services, later weekday buses, a service on all public holidays except Christmas Day and more accessible low-floor buses under a new Environment Bay of Plenty contract with Go Bus.

For further information, go to www.baybus.co.nz or phone 0800 4 BAYBUS.
