Project progress means new moves for motorists

Excellent project progress means more new moves for motorists

With the opening of the new Dowse Interchange under its belt the Dowse to Petone Upgrade project team continues to make excellent progress.

NZ Transport Agency Wellington Regional Director Deborah Hume says it is just over a month since the opening, but the team have already demolished the old Korokoro Bridge and are nearly ready to open the new one.

“Before that happens though, SH2 southbound traffic will shift onto its new, permanent route underneath the partially completed Korokoro overbridge next week,” says Dr Hume

The exact day of the change will be announced on radio traffic bulletins and electronic signs will remind users of the planned traffic shift.

Dr Hume advises that there will also be changes to the access points for the Petone Station Park ‘n’ Ride car park at the same time.

“Commuters will be using the new permanent entrance to the Park ‘n’ Ride car park from next week,” she says. “However, there also will be a new temporary exit sited just under the pedestrian footbridge which will be in place until McKenzie Avenue Bridge is completed.”

Once traffic is running on the permanent highway, SH2 southbound access from Korokoro will be via Dowse Interchange and access from SH2 southbound to Korokoro will be via Priests Avenue.

NZTA reminds motorists that route maps are available on the website www.nzta.govt.nz/d2p

Know your route before you travel.
