Learn about safety at free, fun, family event

Families in Papatoetoe have the opportunity to learn about safety during the Papatoetoe Community Safety Day on Saturday, 9 May.

Parents can bring the kids along to the free event to explore the police van, watch a fire safety demonstration, or take part in some fun, physical Push Play activities organised by Counties Manukau Sport.

Dog lovers can test their canine knowledge with DSS Animal Management’s Guess the Breed competition.

Civil Defence Manukau will be there to raise awareness of what to do in an emergency and there’s a free bouncy castle, sausage sizzle, information stalls, a variety of speakers and great giveaways for the kids.

Deputy Mayor of Manukau and councillor for Papatoetoe, Gary Troup encourages Papatoetoe residents to come along and learn how to make their community safer.

“It is important that the community works together to look after each other. This is a great opportunity to meet and get some safety tips from specialised groups who work hard each day to make Papatoetoe safer.”

Participating groups include; Civil Defence, Counties Manukau Sport, DSS Animal Management, the Gambling Foundation, Injury Free Counties Manukau, Neighbourhood Support, New Zealand Fire Service, New Zealand Police and the South Auckland Family Violence Prevention Network.

Organised by Manukau City Council, additional funding for the event is provided by the Papatoetoe Community Board.
