Commuter train petition handover ceremony at Dunedin Railway Station

A petition containing 2348 signatures requesting that the Otago Regional Council study a commuter rail service to connect Dunedin with its outlying communities will be handed over to Councillor Michael Deaker in a brief ceremony at Dunedin Railway Station at 1.30pm, Wednesday 29 April 2009.

The submitters will travel by Taieri Gorge Railway's 'Seasider' train to the handover at the station.

Danielle Cameron of Get the Train says the group is pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to Regional Council policy. Get the Train is presenting the petition in support of their submissions to the ORC's Long Term Council Community Plan and Regional Land Transport Strategy.

Murray Bond of Taieri Gorge Railway says he is pleased that Get the Train chose the Seasider train as a means of bringing their petition and submissions to the Council.
