Two major child-focused conferences in two weeks

For Immediate Release
26 May, 2009

Two major child-focused conferences in two weeks at Energy Events Centre

More than 1750 early baby and child health workers and caregivers will descend on Rotorua in the next two weeks for two large conferences to be held at the Energy Events Centre.

The Early Childhood Council will hold their annual conference from May 29 to 31, with 750 people registered for the conference. The Council represents independent early childhood centres around New Zealand, and is focused on the provision of quality early childhood education services.

The Early Childhood Council conference is closely followed by the Plunket New Zealand annual conference which will be held at the Energy Events Centre from 7 to 10 June. More than 1000 people are expected to attend the conference.

Events and Venues Rotorua sales and marketing manager, Brett Jeffery, says both conferences are a good example of the size and scale of events that Rotorua is now able to attract with the development of the Energy Events Centre.

"The development of the Energy Events Centre means that Rotorua has become a major player in the conference and incentive market in New Zealand," says Mr Jeffery.

"Before the centre opened, the main venues for conferences of this size were in the main cities - Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

"However, Rotorua is the ultimate destination for events like this because we have such a solid support infrastructure in relation to accommodation, restaurants and recreational activities - all within a short walk from the Energy Events Centre.

"The centre has truly become a real asset to the region - and our whole economy is benefitting as a result."
