Karori Sanctuary Trust Board appointments
Wellington City Council has appointed
two new trustees, Professor Paul Callaghan and Russell
Ballard, to the Karori Sanctuary Trust Board.
The appointments are the result of a change to the structure of the Trust and see an increase in the number of Council positions on the board from two to three.
The changes are a condition of the Council’s loan funding to build the Trust’s new Visitor and Education Centre and are a result of a review into the governance of the Trust following a $1.8 million cost overrun on the visitor centre project.
Professor Callaghan is the Alan MacDiarmid Professor of Physical Sciences at Victoria University and the Director of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. He has published around 240 articles in scientific journals and is a regular speaker on science matters.
Mr Ballard was recently appointed as Chancellor of Massey University. He has over 60 articles published in various science journals and books, and was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1994.
The Council will make its third appointment to the board in June.
