Auckland Harbor Bridge Workers Tribute for the 50th Anniversary
At the invitation of the Labor Party list MP Darien Fenton your President was honored to attend this auspicious tribute to our brave and courageous Auckland harbor bridge workers.
The above event was hosted by the caring and energetic Darien Fenton MP on Friday, May 29 under the Auckland Harbor Bridge at Stokes Pt Reserve in Northcote Pt, Northcote, North Shore City.
We also had a remembrance serve by Father Bob Scott for the three workers who sadly had an untimely death and in the process made the ultimate sacrifice for the construction of the gigantic Auckland Harbor Bridge.
Your President was privileged to meet some of the remaining workers, who are senior citizens now, and we had preview of all the Harbor Bridge treasured and preciously preserved work- in- progress photos and it was awesome and breathtaking.
An elderly lady had the original invitation to the opening ceremony that she received from the then Governor- General in pristine condition.
This event was aired in the TV3 Nightline News on the said day.
Hauraki Corner Shops
On May 25 we made submissions to North Shore City Council regarding the upgrade of Hauraki Corner Shops and how a barrier between vehicles and pedestrians would enhance safety for the people.
We chose option 2 which depicts a series of smaller plinths as these take up less footpath space, and have an ambience feel while providing protection from the road.
