Auckland City Council
Media release

Nominations wanted for expanded safety awards

Do you know of a great activity that has been initiated in Auckland city or within your local community that has increased people’s safety and wellbeing?

Auckland city’s annual community safety awards recognise the many individuals, groups, organisations, schools and businesses that promote valuable initiatives to sustain and increase safety in our city.

Nominations are now open for the 2009 awards, and this year the council is expanding the scope of the awards to recognise excellence in a wider range of activities that contribute to safety in our city.

Award categories acknowledge individual community volunteers, innovation, excellence in host responsibility, as well as business, media, not-for-profit and environmental safety initiatives.

Councillor Paul Goldsmith, chairperson of the Community Services Committee, says the council is looking for nominations of people, projects, initiatives or activities that contribute to the safety and greater wellbeing of Auckland communities.

“These everyday people make such a positive contribution towards the reduction of crime and injury in our city and we are pleased to be able to once again acknowledge them publicly.”

Nominations close on Friday, 3 July and the awards ceremony will be held during NZ Safety Week in September.
