Mayor looks to the future for Kumeu workers

Mayor looks to the future for Kumeu workers

Rodney District Council mayor Penny Webster says her Council will do all it can to help lessen the impact on those people affected by today’s announcement that Fletcher’s will close its Kumeu particle board plant.

“While this decision is not totally unexpected, it is a disappointment as any job losses are a real concern to both our community and council,” Mrs Webster says.

“Unfortunately, the current recession, means this is an all too common occurrence around the country at the moment.

“This decision is not just going to directly impact on the people and families of the 41 workers at the Kumeu plant, but will also have wider ramifications for the wider community.”

Mrs Webster said Council would do whatever it can to help out, such as liaising with the Government and officials to ensure all was being done to help find jobs and support for these people.
