Entries open for countries biggest Show

The Schedule of Classes is now available for this year’s Royal New Zealand Show, hosted by the Canterbury A&P Association.

The Royal New Zealand Show runs from 11-13 November at Canterbury Agricultural Park Christchurch. Attracting 120,000 people, over 7000 livestock and feature competition entries and close to 600 trade exhibitors, plus three full days of entertainment, it is the largest Agricultural and Pastoral Show in the country.

Attracting the best of New Zealand’s livestock the Royal New Zealand Show is the pinnacle of showing success. For livestock exhibitors a Royal Show is considered a premier event in their showing calendar with increased kudos associated with a Royal win.

There is also a financial benefit from Show success with breed organisations considering a win to be recognition of excellence. “A win is not just a reward for the breeders’ hard work but it is also an excellent promotion for the breed in general with breeders’ taking great pride in competing”, said Canterbury A&P Association President Donald Wright.

“The tri-coloured ribbon synonymous with a Royal New Zealand Show win encourages the best of the best to compete, what that means is healthy competition and excellent viewing for Show visitors”, added Wright.

With Royal status comes a higher standard of event with international and national judges expected. Cattle, Sheep, Alpaca and Horse Sections are all expecting overseas judges. “We’re fortunate to have Patty Cloke from the United States of America judging the Miniature Horse Section plus prominent horse judges David Dixon and Jerome Harforth from North Yorkshire, England judging numerous horse sections” added Nicki Hutchinson, Canterbury A&P Association Horse Section Ringmaster.
