Pelorus Trust Fireshow set to explode!

One of Hutt City’s most popular events, The Pelorus Trust Fireshow returns to light up the skies over Petone Foreshore on Saturday 18 July at 7pm

Over 40,000 spectators are expected to descend on Petone Foreshore for the third annual Petone Winter Carnival. The event provides an excellent way to shake off the mid-winter blues and is timed so that the whole family can enjoy the show.

The awe-inspiring pyrotechnic effects designed by award winning fireworks maestro Robert McDermott, feature thousands of star shells, comets, mines and roman candles.

The show has been coordinated by Wellington based fireworks company Brimstone Pyrotechnics and has been set to a heart-pounding soundtrack that will appeal to the young and the young at heart and which will be broadcast live on Classic Hits 90FM.

The Pelorus Trust Fireshow is the finale of the Petone Winter Carnival, designed to provide a great array of family entertainment along the Foreshore.

The best vantage points to view the Pelorus Trust Fireshow include the length of Petone Foreshore and also the surrounding hill suburbs of Khandallah, Newlands, Horokiwi, Korokoro and Maungaraki.

Hutt City Council is encouraging people to arrive early, take public transport if possible, dress warmly and bring a radio and a torch. Carnival-goers are reminded to leave their own fireworks at home and that a liquor ban is in place for the event.

A temporary speed restriction of 30km per hour will also be in place from 9am until 10pm along the Esplanade so motorists are encouraged to take care and watch for pedestrians.

Car parking is available in designated car parks on the streets of Petone and Seaview. Hutt City Council parking wardens will be on duty ensuring cars are parked legally. Please note no parking is allowed on painted or centre raised mediums.

Boating spectators looking for a good viewing spot are asked to keep 300m away from Petone Wharf, keep their boat speed to a maximum of five knots and ensure they keep sufficient life jackets on board.

Highlights of the carnival include:

* Colourful and creative chalk art drawing;

* A chilly dip in the Wellington Harbour as part of the traditional polar plunge;

* Have-a-go circus skills workshops on the flying trapeze, juggling and unicycles

* Carnival rides including the dragon wheel and ever-popular cup and saucer;

* Magenta Diamonds Delightful Den of Oddities, featuring a reinvention of the traditional circus sideshow

* Fuzzy and furry fun of Zippity Zoo petting farm;

* Side splitting street theatre from some of New Zealand’s best loved acts

* Creation of a 48m mural depicting the story of the two taniwha that created Wellington harbour

In the event of bad weather the Petone Winter Carnival will be postponed until Sunday 19 July. Postponement details will be announced on Classic Hits 90FM and Newstalk ZB (1035AM).
