Media Release: Heart Foundation Lottery
Keen fisherman
with ‘Heart of Gold’ wins big in
Kinloch
Retired couple look forward to Christmas
by the lake after taking home the Heart Foundation
Lottery’s grand prize.
Eighty-year-old former hotelier and keen fisherman, Dick Snell, hadn’t won a thing in his life until the Heart Foundation called to say he was the proud owner of a brand new Jennian Dream Home in Kinloch.
Now Dick and his wife Sue are preparing for a summer of friends, fun - and plenty of smoked trout for dinner - as they settle into their new property nestled deep into one of New Zealand’s top fishing destinations.
A long time supporter of the Heart Foundation Lottery, Dick was absolutely delighted when he heard the news.
“I was shocked when Sue told me because although I’ve been buying tickets in the Heart Foundation Lottery for over 10 years - I never expected to win a house!” says Mr Snell.
“I am especially thrilled because I have been to Kinloch many years ago and I remember catching a good few fish in Lake Taupo.
“I am looking forward to picking up where I left off - and Sue is looking forward to cooking up a storm in the new kitchen - especially now, as the lake is just a short 15 minute walk from the house!” he says.
Although Dick and Sue have no personal or family history of heart disease, they are staunch supporters of the Heart Foundation because of its work to improve the heart health of all New Zealanders.
Cardiovascular disease
(heart disease and stroke) is the number one cause of death
for both men and women in New Zealand - accounting for 40%
of all deaths annually - and the Heart Foundation is the
charity working to stop New Zealanders dying prematurely
from heart disease.
It does this through funding cardiac
care, heart related research and free education programmes
for schools and communities across the country.
Jennian Homes is a partner of the Heart Foundation Lottery, and is proud to be able to give back to the community by building six new homes for the Lottery programme this year.
“We support many charities including the Heart Foundation because you never know – one of us might need to call on them one day,” says Mr Snell.

The
Heart Foundation Lottery – Supported by Jennian
Homes.
The Heart Foundation Lottery is
undoubtedly the charity’s most successful fundraising
activity. Each lottery (six per year) offers a top prize of
a superb family home built by Jennian Homes worth
approximately $500,000, as well as runner up prize packages
comprising a wide range of items from cruise ship holidays
to new cars.
Since its inception in 1996, and through the generosity of our supporters, the lottery programme has contributed approximately $12 million dollars to the Heart Foundation. These funds have gone towards a range of activities, including funding vital heart research, advancing cardiac care for those who have suffered a heart event, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
