Hive Of Activity At Hollard Gardens
Buzz along to Hollard Gardens in Kaponga on Sunday (9 August) if you want to know whether and how to build a beehive in your home garden.
Apiarist Rex Walker will take centre stage at the second of a series of five free public workshops aimed at the home gardener. By the end of the series, a new “home garden” plot will have been established at Hollard Gardens, which is owned and administered by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
“Bees do an incredibly important job and Sunday’s workshop will be an opportunity for people to learn how and why,” says the Council’s Regional Gardens Manager, Greg Rine.
“It will all start from a basic question, though: Is it practical and cost-effective to have your own beehive? If it is, there’ll be plenty of good advice on how to go about it.”
Participants will also be able to check progress on the new garden since the first workshop on 26 July, and there will be plenty of tips and advice to apply at home.
The workshops are part of a series of free public events at Hollard Gardens (1686 Upper Manaia Road, Kaponga) and at the second Taranaki Regional Council heritage property, Tupare (487 Mangorei Road, New Plymouth).
