YMCA gives shot guns to youth!

The idea of a 9-13 year old with a shot gun is enough to make anyone nervous. But local residents need not worry; this shot gun is equipped with lasers and is used only for clay bird shooting! This is just one of the many choices kids get at the YMCA this school holiday. Other extraordinary choices include archery, mechanical surfing, combat laser tag and sumo wrestling. “We are always trying to find unique and exciting new experiences for the children at the YMCA” say Keeley Ferguson, Holiday Programme Coordinator. “I love to be able to introduce children to new hobbies and passions” Keeley encourages all children aged 5- 13 years who are looking for something fun and exciting to join the YMCA and give it a go.

The YMCA Tauranga refuses to let finances be a problem for children enjoying their holiday so they developed a new program that provides a less expensive option for families who are finding it difficult to afford the original programme. Y-Zone@Gate Pa is primarily a centre based programme which provides lots of fun activities like archery, bikes, pizza making, and more for only $33 per day. For families that are eligible for WINZ , the cost could be as little as 33c per day!

Keeley says “We plan for a couple of hundred kids a day, a lot of thought and energy goes into organizing each school holiday programme, ensuring it to be memorable and unique for each individual.” The deadline for this Spring Holidays is just a few weeks away. Information on the programme and how to book can be found at www.ymcatauranga.org.nz .

About YMCA Tauranga

To us, it’s all about showing your spirit. Ask yourself, when was the last time you showed yours?

Most people hold tightly onto theirs, often too shy to release it. Some people let their spirit run wild, and sometimes have to rein it in- and we meet tonnes of people who have just never been shown how to find theirs. You also get the occasional person who reckons they are just saving their spirit for later.
At the YMCA we work with people to help find their spirit, so they can make the most of their experience and unleash their potential on the world around them.
The YMCA Tauranga provides great opportunities for people of all ages to participate in education and sport and recreational activities in the Western Bay of Plenty. We embrace the National YMCA vision to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities and incorporate our core values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all that we do.

YMCA Tauranga is an affiliate of The National Council of YMCA's of New Zealand, and the World Alliance of YMCAs.
