Palmerston North Sets Roading Standards

Palmerston North has just become the first city in New Zealand to achieve compliance with the recently released National Code of Practice for Working in roading corridors, and has done so with a world class, New Zealand-developed, infrastructure management solution.

The code sets new standards for scheduling, tracking and managing works within roading corridors. After extensive due diligence Palmerston North City Council chose to implement the new ‘T3’ roading corridor management software.

Created by Auckland’s TrifectaGIS, with input from technical partners MWH New Zealand and AAMHatch, this software has already generated international interest. ‘T3’s “dig once” focus provides territorial authorities with the tools to coordinate and manage all works undertaken in the roading corridor. This has significant cost and efficiency savings says Clark Easter, CEO of Trifecta.

Previously engineers have had to juggle multiple software applications to access their key information. ‘T3’ resolves these issues using state of the art, intuitive and interactive map based technology. It will ensure less disruption to the road user, better protection of assets and improved public safety. It will also ensure tax dollars in the roading sector are wisely spent.

Using these tools, Palmerston North City Council has ensured scheduling conflicts are identified and resolved far more efficiently, and as a result, have uncovered several hundred thousand dollars in potential savings to ratepayers.
