Mayor welcomes return to the
Auckland region’s beaches
The Mayor of North Shore City, Andrew Williams, has welcomed today’s announcement by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service that the people of the region can make a “cautious return to the beaches”. The ARPHS have warned that “children and pets must be closely supervised at all times, and should not be allowed to eat things found on the beach.”
“My advice to people this week, and continues to be, obviously be more cautious than usual and keep a tight rein on your dog. Don’t let them get anywhere near seaweed or any washed up objects that could be potentially harmful. It boils down to simple common sense. The toxins have been found in washed up sea slugs and other marine life. Just make sure that your pet does not sniff out and chew on anything.” says Mayor Williams.
“And the same precautions especially go for children, who must be supervised to ensure they do not handle any washed up marine life such as sea slugs.”
“Mayoress Jane and I will be out again, like last weekend, walking Rimu our golden retriever, making the most of our fabulous North Shore beaches and this good weather. I hope people will enjoy doing likewise if they get a chance, but mindful at all times that a level of caution and care is needed to be on the safe side.”
