Entries close on Monday September 7 for a photo competition to celebrate Conservation Week in Wairarapa.
The photos will go on display at Aratoi: Wairarapa Museum of Art & History during Conservation Week 13-20 September.
Department of Conservation community relations programme manager Amanda Cosgrove says the competition gives budding photographers the chance to get show off their images and they could be in to win some great prizes supplied by local businesses.
“Donated prizes include a Panasonic camera from Newbolds, a one-year Wilderness magazine subscription, passes to Pukaha Mount Bruce and many more. The theme of ‘snap happy in nature’ is very flexible for our Wairarapa participants. You’ve got to be in to win.” she says.
The photography competition is the first event in a week long celebration of conservation around Wairarapa.
“This is our biggest Conservation Week ever with more than 20 events around the region involving stream-care groups, Forest & Bird, regional councils and local trusts. It’s an opportunity for everyone to find something they are interested in,” says Amanda.
The major national sponsor TVNZ6 will be filming an event at Castlepoint, New Zealand’s foremost shark specialist Clinton Duffy is talking about Wairarapa’s coastline, and a conservation scavenger hunt on Sunday September 20 at Henley Lake in Masterton closes off the week with fun and games.
All entries for the photography competition must be to DOC at 220 South Road, Masterton by Monday 7 September. They need to be printed on A4 matt photography paper and have a white border. The competition is judged on Friday 11 September and the photos will be on display for the week.
