Local Boards will be good for Communities
Chair of the Massey Community Board, John Riddell, believes that 30 Local Boards will be good for communities of interest.
"More than anything else local communities will be able to decide what is best for their community rather than Councils", says Mr Riddell.
Judged on what our Councils are saying in their press releases on the subject of Auckland Governance, many of our current Councillors will not be standing in the local government elections of 2010 in Auckland.
"People with a genuine concern for democracy, with an interest in their local community will probably receive the heads up", says Mr Riddell.
The Massey Community Board (Waitakere City Council), voted in May to support in principle the Governments proposals for the Super City. Mr Riddell is Secretary/Treasurer of the Massey & Birdwood Settlers Assn Inc, a ratepayers group incorporated in 1925, a school trustee, Rotarian and on the Auckland Car Club executive.
