The Lion Foundation assists with new resources for Whakatane Rowing Club

Whakatane Rowing Club is looking forward to a special summer with a new boatshed and equipment valued at $45,000 – thanks to The Lion Foundation.

The charitable trust’s recent grant has enabled the club to purchase four sets of sculling blades, a new outboard motor for its coach boat and the construction of a new boatshed for small boat storage.

Steve Brine, Club Captain, Whakatane Rowing Club says the resources are desperately needed and will benefit the club’s members and the community.

“The boatshed will be separate from the existing club facilities and will house around 24 boats, including blades and riggers. Thanks to the generosity of The Lion Foundation, we are able to complete the shed project and provide some important equipment for our members.”

Operating for over 20 years and one of the country’s most widely respected charitable trusts, The Lion Foundation is proud to encourage the enjoyment and skill of various sporting activities, by distributing back to the local community the funds raised through its gaming venue, the Red Rock Hotel.

The Lion Foundation Chief Executive Phil Holden says “Kiwis love sport and Whakatane Rowing Club is committed to offering facilities and resources that enable as many of its members as possible to enjoy rowing.”

Mr Holden adds: “The Lion Foundation is proud to support this organisation. We wish the club and its members a safe summer and every enjoyment and success on the water.”

The Lion Foundation funds a wide range of arts, cultural, sporting, educational and health focused causes. This approach has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure the charitable trust’s support reaches as many New Zealand communities as possible.
