artsMAD evening for art lovers

ROTORUA 16.09.09:Local art lovers are being encouraged to get to a presentation next week to hear what makes some of Rotorua’s best creative talent tick

The artsMAD (arts, media, architecture and design) evening at the Pheasant Plucker brings artists, architects and designers together to share their knowledge through short dynamic presentations.

Presenters on Monday [21 September] include architect and interior designer Jacqui Heaton, sculptor Jamie Pickernell, prosthetics artist Jeff Finton, photographer and painter Tracey Robinson, film maker Lara Northcroft, artist and Waiariki Institute of Technology coordinator of creative arts Don Overbeay, musician Rosanna Dedman, and other Rotorua creatives.

Rotorua District Council community arts officer, Kiri Jarden, says it is a fantastic opportunity for local people to gain insight into what inspires creativity, while also gaining some inspiration themselves.

“We’ve already run two successful artsMAD events, with people in the community keen to hear the story behind arts and design, especially the human element.

“Speakers are so passionate about their art forms, and the audiences become so involved, we find it difficult to stop presenters after their allotted six minutes.”

artsMAD will be happening at The Pheasant Plucker on Arawa St on Monday September 21 from 5.30pm. It is free and open to anyone.
