Be a ranger in the school holidays

School holiday blues are solved this October at Pukaha Mount Bruce. Enrol your children in Ranger for a Day holiday programme or have a night adventure in the Pukaha forest.

Running Monday, Wednesday and Friday over the next two weeks Department of Conservation staff are hosting children who are keen to get involved to become a ranger for the day.

They will get out behind the scenes and learn about the work rangers do and help perform some ranger duties as they feed and care for our endangered wildlife.

DOC field centre supervisor Kathy Houkamau says this is the second year of offering this opportunity to school children but this year they have extended this to include night adventures.

“For the first time ever we're giving kids an opportunity to discover what's lurking in the dark at Pukaha Mount Bruce.

They will get the chance to experience the forest after dark under the expert guidance of DOC rangers, feed the giant eels, listen for nocturnal wildlife, hunt for kiwi and tuck into hot chocolate and cookies in the bush” says Kathy.

Bookings are essential for both of these exciting activities.
